Lingering in Murano

We woke up reasonably late this morning, which was a nice change of pace after many early mornings. After breakfast at the hotel we decided to head over to Murano to wander about, watch some glass blowing, and do some window shopping.

When we first arrived we got the 48 hour vaparetto pass and it has certainly be a great deal since we use them all the time. The crossing to Murano was interesting and not too crowded.

We then wandered around aimlessly. We saw a glass blowing demonstration and ate some gelato.

We were thinking of going to one of the other island, but then got on a wrong vaparetto and ended up back on the main island by which point we decided to get some business done (train reservations), sit by a canal for a bit, and get some food.

We went back to the hotel to chill out for a while, determining that we wanted to stay out a bit later and see more of the city at night. When we went out again the sun was starting to set.

We walked around for a while, got some food to go and a couple of fantas, and found another nice canal spot with some good sitting stairs.

There were some crabs hanging out in the water for our amusement. They do not photograph well, but Ellie's amusement should give you a clue about how interesting they were.

We stayed out quite late and the light came on all over the city.

I don't even know how I made this photo happen, but we walked through Piazza San Marco on the way back to the hotel and I tried to take a picture of the buildings all lit up.

Tomorrow our train is not until 10:30 so we are going to be able to have a nice leisurely morning. Next stop Rome.
