We then went to do some bargain hunting. Florence has amazing open air markets with all manner of stuff. Ellie was curious about haggling so we went to try our luck.
Everything is a bargain in the markets if you put your mind to it, and haggling just establishes how much of a bargain. I think we did okay for ourselves.
We also checked out the huge indoor food markets for luck and snacks.
We had reservations for the Accademia Gallery later in the day, so we went back to drop off our purchases and finish reading The Westing Game. Along the way I took some pictures of Florence graffiti. It is not as pervasive as the graffiti in Berlin, but bonus pints for style.
After we finished our book we headed to the gallery. Since we had reservations for late afternoon it was not outrageously crowded. Of course among other things we saw David and some of the unfinished works of Michelangelo.
They also have a great musical instrument museum. We checked out the displays as well as the educational programming available at the media stations.
After we finished up at the museum we headed down to the Plaza Vecchio to check out the statues.
In the middle of the plaza, in the midst of all the Renaissance sculpture in the sale of classical sculptures there is giant gold dude in suit on even more giant gold sea turtle.
We then headed back toward our lodgings. We stopped for some sandwiches to eat on the street as well as the obligatory gelato.
Tomorrow morning we head to Monteresso by way of Pisa with some surprises in store. Florence has been lovely.
