Walking and eating and trains

Goodbye Berlin, hello Munich. We started off this morning quite early, packing up and getting to the station for an early train.

It was a pleasant trip. No worries about transfers and we were able to take advantage of waffles with cherries in the dining car. Mostly we read and watched the world roll by.

Of course the rain followed us from Berlin. We checked in and then proceeded to the Glockenspiel to catch a bit of the show. We missed most of it since I got us a bit turned around on the public transportation with my nonexistent German language skills, but we can catch the whole thing tomorrow is maybe slightly less damp conditions.

Next we wandered around and ate things. Ellie had a cheese sandwich, I had a sausage, we shared some sort of pastry thing with berries, we each had ice cream, and then we topped it off with a pretzel. It is a good thing we did lots of walking.

The rain did slow down a bit after a while and the sun sort of came out for a bit. We were very well prepared for the showers, but even so, it was nice to get some sun.

We then headed back to our hotel. Along the way we stopped at a classic Germany grocery store, aka Aldi, to replenish our snack bag. We bought an assortment of unidentified food things and some apples for good measure. We made it back to the hotel before a second round of rain hit, sparing my socks a terrific soaking.

So far the hotel is very nice. It is a bit of a ride from the city center, but hotels in Munich are difficult with all of the festivals and whatnot. It is the hotel equivalent of surge pricing. So we are five stops out on the S Bahn where things are a bit more predictable. We are in the lap of luxury with out very own bathroom and everything. Not that hostels and shared bathrooms are bad, it is just that everything takes a bit more planning. Plus the place we at staying is very cute.

Ellie only wishes that we were in one of the towers.

Tomorrow we are going to see all we can of Munich without rushing too much. And of course more eating and walking.
